SWASTIKA MASQUERADE

In ‘A Brief History Of Neckties’ [Time Magazine - June 23, 2008] one learns that one of the few fashion accessories to have survived 400 years of social change is - The Tie - and that in 1924 an American tailor [Langdorf] patented the tie’s modern look.
During the Clinton era ‘tie sales hit a 1.3 billion dollar peak that in 1995 commenced a steady decline’ as the dot.com boom threatened to obliterate neckwear entirely: Indeed, mid-2008 saw closing down of the ‘American Men’s Dress Furnishings Association’! The highlight of the piece shows an un-tied AhMADinejad denouncing the necktie as ‘a symbol of Western decadence’!
In Robert Waites’1977 masterpiece, “The Psychopathic God: Adolf Hitler”, one notes that Mahmoud’s idol also had a similar fear of ‘neckties’ – a term appearing in the index under G for Games viz: “Among the many childish games Hitler played was a form of substitute suicide. He disliked tying his own necktie and had his valet do it for him. He would hold his breath and count slowly to ten. If the faithful Linge could finish the knot before Hitler had finished counting, the Fuhrer was greatly relieved”!
So what is one to make of the sartorial game played by Anwar Sadat during his 1977 visit to Jerusalem, viz: the GPO press photograph - published alongside the ‘JPUpfront’ piece “With undue credit” [March 20, 2009] – which displays Sadat wearing a necktie adorned with ‘Swastikas’!
It was not until 1980 that the French monthly ‘Lui’ managed to obtain an interview with 'Him', wherein Sadat confessed that after he was informed about his tie’s symbolism ‘he called for his valet to bring him the tie; upon realizing the significance of its pattern', he said, “I never wore it again”!.
So spake the Man voted during that period by ‘Time’ as one of the world’s ‘Best dressed man’. The follow-up question 'Lui' failed to ask is - "how did Ahmed, Sadat's valet know which tie to bring forth"?
